13For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.”
Psalm 139:13-14a

I missed blogging on Wonders of God Wednesday last week because I spent the day at the hospital with a friend whose husband was having a heart valve transplant. So I did just a little research on the heart.

Did you know that an average heart beats about 115,000 times per day! That’s more than 42 million times in one year! My mom turned 80 years old this year; that means her heart has beat more than 3 billion times since she was born! And not one of those times did she consciously try to make her heart beat. Her brain just sent the signal to her heart muscle over and over again…115,000 times each day…more than 3 billion times in her life.

As our heart beats, it sends blood through our body in an amazing system of arteries, veins and capillaries. If you laid out all the blood vessels in your body (don’t do this at home, folks) they would be 60,000 miles long. That’s long enough to go around the world more than twice!

We are truly fearfully and wonderfully made. Thank You, Lord!

Here’s a short video. It’s a little boring…but it’s only a minute and a half long, and it lets you see what I’ve just described.
